Microsoft DNS Issue

While I was in my Computer Security Lab today, we were trying to log onto the domain and the settings were taking a long time to load. When we talked to Alan, the System Administrator, we found out the the DNS settings were pointed at turing (CS Server) which did not contain the Active Directory.

Active Directory

We changed the primary DNS settings to point at the Active Directory Server and that fixed it. When we logged back in, the settings loaded right away. The reason for the change in time to load was because turing knew where the active directory was located and it finally resolved to the right DNS. Active Directory does not like being the DNS Server so it was holding up until it resolved the right DNS.
