Armenian Genocide Denial = Jail Time
*I’ve been meaning to post this for almost two months*
French lawmakers on Thursday (October 12, 2006) approved a bill making it a crime to deny that mass killings of Armenians in Turkey during and after World War I amounted to genocide.
I was shocked to hear that the French government is actually supporting this bill since the European Union opposed this bill since Turkey is trying to become part of the Union. However, it was approved 106-19 but the bill has pissed off Turkish citizens.
Even though they approved the bill, currently there is no plan to actually make it a National Law. If it does become a law and people decide to deny the genocide, they will be sentenced to 1 year in prison and fined $56,000. Even though I want to learn about the genocide and to acknowledge the event happening, I do not think someone should be put in jail for a year because of it. People should be able to speak their mind, to an extent, without being fined or thrown in jail.

Karabakh voted 98% for independence yesterday. Now we see how fast Bushie responds to acknowledge the will of a free and democratic people.
