Lugo Walks The Sox Off To Victory On Mother’s Day

Julio Lugo
First of all, Josh Beckett who has been amazing so far this year and was going for his 8th win was unable to finish the game and was taken out after the 4th inning due to an injury on his hand and hopefully he will be better for his next start. What a game the Red Sox played today. Down 5-0 in the bottom of the 9th, the Sox came back to win it 6-5.

With one out in the 9th inning, Coco Crisp got up to bat and popped a fly ball up to the catcher and as it came down, he dropped it becoming the downfall of the Orioles. The removed the pitcher and the new rubber man gave up a double by Ortiz bringing in one run. Then Willy Mo Pena singled putting runners on the corners for JD Drew and Kevin Youkilis who both walked making the score 5-2. The Captain Jason Varitek doubled and bringing around 2 runs which brought the game within 1 run. They loaded the bases on an IBB to Eric Hinske and then caused Alex Cora to ground into a force out at the plate. Two outs with runners on second and third down 5-4, Julio Lugo stepped up to the plate. He grounds the ball to the first baseman and with the speed of Lugo, the pitcher needed to come in and help. As Millar threw the ball to the pitcher, he missed the ball and Lugo was safe which was enough to bring Varitek and Hinske home to win the ballgame.

Today, the players wore pink armbands and swung pink bats for Mother’s Day and for the awareness of Breast Cancer and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there and I hope you have a wonderful day and especially my mother, grandmother and sister, I can’t wait to be back home in a week and spend time with all of you. I Love You!
