With the Red Sox leading the Athletics 1-0 going into the bottom of the ninth, Curt Schilling stepped back on the field to try and finish the game. After getting two quick outs by Lugo, there was only one batter left before the game was over. One thing I forgot to mention (intentionally) is that Curt Schilling was pitching a no hitter with one out left in the game. The hopefully last batter Shannon Stewart took a swing at the first pitch fast ball by Schilling. He hit a line drive past diving cora at second base to blow the no hitter for Curt by a few inches.
The Red Sox needed a win today to stop a 4 game losing streak and it would have been the first time this season that the Sox would have been swept. Thanks to Curt Schilling and David Ortiz who hit a HR in the first inning.
curt schilling, schilling, pitching, nono, no hitter, 9 innings, Shannon Stewart
