With Kason Gabbard on the mound, the Red Sox tried to get a game 1 victory over Kansas City today and they succeeded. Gabbard pitched a 9 inning complete game giving up only three hits, one walk and striking out eight Royals.

The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the 4th when Dustin Pedroia hit a solo HR followed by Manny’s solo HR two batters later. With the Red Sox up 2-0 in the 6th, Pedroia hit a single to make way for Big Papi to hit his 16th homer of the season making the score 4-0. It would stay that way for the rest of the game.
