Fenway Park Hosted 5th Annual Blood Drive For 9/11

Red Cross with Red SoxAnother year passes as we remember those who lost their lives during the September 11th attacks. If you are not able to fight in the “war”, donate blood and save a life.

The following is a press release from the Boston Red Sox from yesterday.

…This event, sponsored by the Boston Red Sox, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and the American Red Cross, in association with Legal Sea Foods, Boston Sports Clubs, Aramark, and the Boston Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services has become a wonderful opportunity for New Englanders to come together in memory of those lost, and donate blood so that others may survive.

On Tuesday, Blood Drives will be held not only at Fenway Park, but also at Boston City Hall (12 noon until 6:00 p.m.) and across Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Members of the public are invited to take part in New England’s largest blood drive by coming to donate, volunteering their time, or bringing friends and family members to take part in the day’s events. Appointments can be made by calling 1-800-GIVE LIFE.

Individuals interested in participating in the Fenway Park Blood Drive should enter the park through Gate D. The event will take place in the EMC Club (3rd level) and State Street Pavilion (4th level). Blood donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health.

Last year’s blood drive at Fenway Park collected over 1,000 units of blood. With each unit of donated blood having the ability to help up to three patients in need, this event has continuously broken records, and is aiming to collect even more blood this year. The American Red Cross is hoping that people will continue this tradition and come together to commemorate the solemn occasion by giving the gift of life to the thousands of patients in area hospitals who rely on the generosity of volunteer blood donors each and every day.

The American Red Cross has been a primary supplier of lifesaving blood products in the United States for over 50 years. The American Red Cross Blood Services – Northeast Division supplies a wide range of blood components, plasma derivatives, and transfusion services to over 200 hospitals and other medical facilities in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Connecticut. It serves the blood needs of over 9 million residents and many thousands more who travel to New England for care at many of the nation’s top medical centers.

NOTE: As long as the rain holds out, I will be at the game tonight.
