YouTube’s New API, What A Coincidence

A few week ago (before march 11th), I was at work and looking through the YouTube API figuring out how we could benefit from it. My boss wanted to use it on our site (StudentCity.com), for when travelers want to post their videos on YouTube through our community. After scrolling through the documentation, I realized that not only could we not upload from our site, but I could not get a lot of the information that we would like to have. I mentioned this to my boss stating that unless they release more features to the API, it isn’t going to happen.

March 12thish, my boss informed me that a new version of the YouTube API was released. After researching and finding out that it is exactly what I was looking for, I felt like saying, “Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner”. Not really, but I like the reference. The new API is amazing. Besides getting the video information, I can upload files, get related videos along with more by the same user. I can also add a rating and get the comments. All of these things, I was doing myself with queries and self gathered data.

Since I found out about this, my priorities at work have changed to redesigning our sister site (GradCity.com) and once we finish, I will be hoping to add in features from the new <a href="YouTube API“>YouTube API.

Thank You YouTube!!!
